Nightwing Movie Coming From Chris McKay

Warner Bros. is working on another DC movie based on the character of Nightwing.

THR is reporting Chris McKay from the recent The Lego Batman Movie is in negotiations to direct the film, and Bill Duboque ( The Accountant) is writing the script.

In case you didn’t know, Nightwing is Dick Grayson, introduced in Detective Comics  in 1940. He was a part of his family acrobatic team, “The Flying Graysons”, who were murdered. Bruce Wayne then adopted him and trained him to help him fight crime as Robin. McKay

directed a version of Robin in The Lego Batman Movie (review coming soon). That version was a little more comedic than the version I hope they’ll go for in this movie. Nightwing is an aged up version of Robin who was leader of the Teen Titans in the 80’s.

I said in an article earlier that one of the problems with the DCEU is that they make decisions constantly without a plan in mind. I would be saying that now if I weren’t such a fan of Nightwing.

Nightwing is one of my favorite DC heroes. He’s like Batman but funny, to put it simply. I think it’s awesome to expand on the bat family in this cinematic universe. We know that Jason Todd was killed by Joker in this universe. That begs the question to whether this Nightwing already exists in the universe, or if it’ll be an origin story. They could take the comic book route and say Jason Todd was the second robin. In the comics, when Jason Todd took over as Robin, Dick Grayson became Nightwing.

This could all be explored in the solo Batman movie, and it probably will. I can’t imagine them completely ignoring the fact that they showed a dead Robin suit in Baman v Superman. This gets me excited that Warner Bros. will explore the bat family more. Batman could even show up this movie. Whether it’s Ben Affleck or not is still being decided.

In the end, as much as I know DC is just saying these things to make us like them, this news gets me excited to see a live-action Nightwing movie.
