Danny Elfman will now compose the score for the next film in the DCEU, Justice League.
THR reports that Danny Elfman will write the soundtrack for Justice League. He will replace Junkie XL who was previously set to compose, but left to work on another Warner Bros. film, Tomb Raider. Hans Zimmer and Junkie XL both composed the score for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Hans Zimmer also scored Man of Steel.
Elfman’s scores are usually very powerful and uplifting. It will be a very different feel than the score was in BvS. The score in that film was very dark and more epic than Danny Elfman usually writes. This would be the third comic book franchise he has worked on. He scored the Tim Burton Batman films and the Sam Raimi Spider-Man
I am very excited to hear his score. I like how the DCEU is taking a different direction starting with Wonder Woman (Review coming soon). Even though I enjoyed the darker tone in the previous films, I am very aware that they need to take a different approach from now on to DC movies.

Warner Bros. is working on another DC movie based on the character of Nightwing.
THR is reporting Chris McKay from the recent The Lego Batman Movie is in negotiations to direct the film, and Bill Duboque ( The Accountant) is writing the script.
In case you didn’t know, Nightwing is Dick Grayson, introduced in Detective Comics in 1940. He was a part of his family acrobatic team, “The Flying Graysons”, who were murdered. Bruce Wayne then adopted him and trained him to help him fight crime as Robin. McKay
directed a version of Robin in The Lego Batman Movie (review coming soon). That version was a little more comedic than the version I hope they’ll go for in this movie. Nightwing is an aged up version of Robin who was leader of the Teen Titans in the 80’s.
I said in an article earlier that one of the problems with the DCEU is that they make decisions constantly without a plan in mind. I would be saying that now if I weren’t such a fan of Nightwing.
Nightwing is one of my favorite DC heroes. He’s like Batman but funny, to put it simply. I think it’s awesome to expand on the bat family in this cinematic universe. We know that Jason Todd was killed by Joker in this universe. That begs the question to whether this Nightwing already exists in the universe, or if it’ll be an origin story. They could take the comic book route and say Jason Todd was the second robin. In the comics, when Jason Todd took over as Robin, Dick Grayson became Nightwing.
This could all be explored in the solo Batman movie, and it probably will. I can’t imagine them completely ignoring the fact that they showed a dead Robin suit in Baman v Superman. This gets me excited that Warner Bros. will explore the bat family more. Batman could even show up this movie. Whether it’s Ben Affleck or not is still being decided.
In the end, as much as I know DC is just saying these things to make us like them, this news gets me excited to see a live-action Nightwing movie.

Warner Bros. made an official press release stating that Matt Reeves will direct The Batman. He released the following statement:
“I have loved the Batman story since I was a child. He is such an iconic and compelling character, and one that resonates with me deeply. I am incredibly honored and excited to be working with Warner Bros. to bring an epic and emotional new take on the Caped Crusader to the big screen.”
WB President and Chief Content Officer Tony Emmerich added:
“We are thrilled to have Matt Reeves taking the helm of Batman, the crown jewel of our DC slate. Matt’s deep roots in genre films and his evolution into an emotional world-building director make him the perfect filmmaker to guide the Dark Knight through this next journey.”
What is interesting is that Ben Affleck isn’t mentioned anywhere in these statements. Various outlets have reached out to Warner Bros. and have been told the press release was designed to focus on Reeves and that Ben Affleck is definitely still in. Joe Manganiello wasn’t in this either. He is supposed to play Deathstroke in the film.
This news makes me very happy because of all the bad news this movie s getting. I would be more happy if Ben Affleck was mentioned, but I will take promising news where I can get it. Matt Reeves can definitely handle this movie. He jumped into a franchise when he directed Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and succeeded. We’ll see what he does with War for the Planet of the Apes this summer. As long as he stays on and we don’t get any too bad reports about the movie, I will be looking forward to it.
I wonder what brought him back, since talks stopped about a week ago. It could have been money (which I hope wasn’t the case), or WB could have come around and agreed on creative ideas. Reeves did say in his statement that he is a fan of Batman which is promising. I like how he describes the movie as epic and emotional, he makes it sound like a really good film. I’m really excited to see this movie finally happen.

Deadline reports that Chris Terrio has turned in a rewrite for the solo Batman script that Ben Affleck and president/ Chief Creative Officer of DC Comics, Geoff Johns.
Chris Terrio has two major credits under his belt: Argo and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. He will also write the upcoming Justice League movie this fall. Terrio won an Oscar for best writing, adapted screenplay for Argo, but Batman v Superman‘s main problem was the messy screenplay. Despite that, I am still on board with this.
So, we all know that the problem with Batman v Superman was that they tried to cram too much in one movie. But, I think that Warner Brothers should take the blame for that. They decided to make one movie to set up Justice League, so they would then have to tell Chris Terrio to add all these things into one movie. You can only do so much with that.
The other thing is the Oscar. I honestly haven’t seen Argo yet (I actually have the blu-ray to watch soon) but I’ve heard great things. He won an Oscar, so clearly he has some talent, they don’t just hand those out. That’s why I think it was Warner Brothers that had Terrio add all those things into one movie. I don’t think a writer who has an Oscar would turn in work that messy by choice.
That’s not to say that I didn’t want Ben Affleck to write the script, I would actually rather have that because he has proven to be a better writer. Chris Terrio only has two major movies in his filmography while Ben Affleck also has a best writing Oscar, and even more movies. I really wanted to see his take on The Batman.
Lastly, the scary thing is that someone had to rewrite it. Ben Affleck previously said that he would only direct it if the script turned out right. Look what happened. That part of this scares me. Why would you need a rewrite if the script was good to begin with? So, I don’t know why there was a rewrite, but the facts add up to that reason.
As far as Chris Terrio writing, I’m cautiously optimistic that the movie will turn out good, but things aren’t adding up too positively.

With the recent news that Ben Affleck will not be directing the solo Batman movie, I thought that it was time to discuss my personal thought on the direction of the DCEU. As far as my thoughts on the movies so far, I really liked Man of Steel. I think it’s the best Superman movie so far. I enjoyed Batman v Superman, but it has problems. And I’m not a fan of Suicide Squad.
I love comic books. DC has the best comic books out right now, they literally started the fad that we now know today. Batman and Superman are the definitive superheroes. I’m not a DC fan boy specifically because I also love Marvel. (But I might like DC characters a little bit more) All I want are great comic book movies from all studios whether it’s DC, Marvel, Sony, or Fox. So, don’t take what I’m about to say as me hating on DC. I love DC and Marvel.
The DCEU started with Man of Steel, which was a great standalone comic book movie, in my opinion. Then a year later they decide to create an entire comic book universe around this movie, which isn’t a bad idea. It can be done. But it was the way that the 5 year slate was done. If you don’t know it, then here’s a link. They decided to make Batman v Superman before a solo Batman film. Or Wonder Woman. And then they decide to make Justice League before solo Flash, Aquaman, and Cyborg. That can be done, but it just isn’t the best direction to go. The reason The Avengers worked so well was because we had seen these characters in separate movies, and we finally were seeing them team up for the first time. It was powerful to see these characters team up and it was so awesome.
The reason I’m starting to lose faith in the DCEU is because Warner Bros. keeps making these rash decisions. It shows that they have no plan and they don’t know what they’re doing. The Flash movie has gone through three different directors, and it’s going through a complete rewrite right now. They keep making impulse decisions like David Ayer directing a Gotham City Sirens movie, Shazam being split into two movies, and Justice League being pushed to make room for Batman.
I might be OK with this if they had a great track record so far, but they don’t. If Marvel were to make a decision like one of these, within reason, I wouldn’t be as scared. Because, Marvel makes one slate, and they stick with that and don’t adjust as they go along. They could announce a solo Black Widow movie, but they haven’t because they have a plan, and they are confident with it. Also, we trust them because they simply make really good movies. Out of the 14 movies so far, in my opinion, only 2 have been bad. Again, I don’t think that one studio is better than the other, one just makes better movies.
In the end, I just think that since DC’s last two movies haven’t been that good, and they keep making these impulse decisions. It seems like they don’t know what they’re doing and they don’t have a plan. Justice League is my last hope for the DCEU. If that and Wonder Woman don’t work out, then I’m done. I know it seems like I’m super negative towards the DCEU, but I’m actually hopeful for it. All I want is to be able to go to the theater and watch a great movie based on great characters. I really hope I’m wrong about this.
