Sony has set release date for some of their upcoming films in the next two years including Silver & Black and Sicario 2: Soldado.
Silver & Black, the Spider-Man spin off that takes place out of the MCU, will release around Valentine’s Day on February 8, 2019. It will be directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood and will feature the characters Silver Sable and Black Cat. This is only four months after the first spin off,Venom, starring Tom Hardy.
It’s now confirmed that Anne Hathaway will star in the Barbie movie, which has been pushed to August 8, 2018 from July 29, 2018. The article also notes that Bad Boys for Life has been completely removed from the schedule. It was originally supposedly to come out in November 9, 2018 after many release date pushes.
Sicario 2: Soldado, the sequel to Denis Villeneuve’s film in 2015, Sicario, will release on June 29, 2018. Josh Brolin and Benicio Del Toro will return being directed by Stefano Sollima. The article also highlights some smaller movies being released like The Nightgale on January 25, 2019, Homes and Watson, the Seth Rogan and Will Ferrell comedy, on November 9, 2018, and The Rosie Project on May 10, 2019.
I hope Silver & Black ends up being really good. I’ve said this a thousand times, but I’m not a fan of what Sony is doing with the spinoffs, but Venom is looking promising with the casting. Hopefully both movies can end up succeeding. I’m also really looking forward to the Sicario sequel. The first movie was amazing. It’s not a rewatchable movie, but it is very well made. Denis Villeneuve is the main thing that makes that movie work, however I am open to see what the new director can do.

Looks like the one of the stars of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will be in Sony’s new Spider-Man spinoff movie, Venom.
THR reports that Riz Ahmed (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Jason Bourne, and The Night Of) is in talks to be in Venom, the Solo movie for the Spider-Man villain. The report states that he will not play the villain of the movie, Carnage, who Sony is still looking to cast. The movie will star Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock/Venom and be directed by Ruben Fleischer.
The Sony movie movie, Venom, has gone through some confusion as to its involvement in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. One moment it was separate, then it was in it, then it was separate again. As of now, it will not take place within the Spider-Man: Homecoming universe. It will be a completely separate story focusing on Venom. Riz Ahmed is a great up and coming actor who will be getting lots of work once he builds up his filmography further. Even though I’m not completely satisfied with Sony’s decision to make this movie, this adds a second great cast member and make me a little bit more optimistic about the movie.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens was one of the highest grossing movies of all time because it belongs to one of the biggest movie franchises of all time. We barely know anything about the sequel, The Last Jedi, but in an interview with EW, Mark Hamill, Daisy Ridley, and Rian Johnson shared some details about he mind sets of the characters in the movie. Especially the Luke and Rey relationship.
Mark Hamill talks about how surprised he was to read the script and see how Luke was portrayed.
“The fact that Luke says, ‘I only know one truth. It’s time for the Jedi to end…’ I mean, that’s a pretty amazing statement for someone who was the symbol of hope and optimism in the original films. When I first read it, my jaw dropped. What would make someone that alienated from his original convictions? That’s not something that you can just make up in an afternoon, and I really struggled with this thing.”
Daisy Ridley says that Rey “misses the gruff warmth of Han Solo” and is trying to get Luke to pick himself back up and become the hero she wants him to be.
“Regardless of everything else, she’s been welcomed. No one ever really turns away from her. ’Oh my God, this other man that I lost within a couple days was somewhat of a father figure. Now he’s gone, and instead I’m with this grumpy guy on an island who doesn’t want me here.’ I don’t think one girl, who he doesn’t know, turning up with a lightsaber is gonna make him go, ‘Oh, s—, yeah, of course I’ll get back into the action.'”
Rian Johnson is taking a very different direction for Luke Skywalker than fans expected, according to EW. They say that Star Wars starts with “A long time ago” but doesn’t end with “Happily ever after.”
“The very first step in the writing of this was figuring out why he’s on that island. We know that he is not a coward. He’s not just hiding because he’s scared. But we also know that he must know his friends are in danger. He must know the galaxy needs him. And he’s sitting on this island in the middle of nowhere. There had to be an answer. It had to be something where Luke Skywalker believes he’s doing the right thing – and the process of figuring out what that is and unpacking it is the journey for Rey.”
In The Force Awakens, we learned that Luke was training Ben Solo, who later became Kylo Ren. Hamill says Luke feels guilty about that.
“[Luke] made a huge mistake in thinking that his nephew was the chosen one, so he invested everything he had in Kylo, much like Obi-Wan did with my character. And he is betrayed, with tragic consequences. Luke feels responsible for that. That’s the primary obstacle he has to rejoining the world and his place in the Jedi hierarchy, you know? It’s that guilt, that feeling that it’s his fault, that he didn’t detect the darkness in him until it was too late.”
He also says that every detail about the past isn’t explained.
“There’s massive amounts of backstory that is left to your imagination and I couldn’t do my job without figuring out what that was. Since it’s not really important to the main story as a whole a lot of it is just for my own process. I talked with Rian about it and went into this elaborate scenario of what happened to Luke after the end of the Return of the Jedi.
Along with the interview, EW posted some exclusive photos from the new movie which you can see some of them below.
I haven’t talked about it much on the website, but I am a massive Star Wars fan. I like to read the canon novels, I’m reading the comics, and love most of the movies (not the prequels). I went to Star Wars Celebration this past April and got to watch the trailer for The Last Jedi on the show floor with hundreds of fans. Everybody went crazy throughout the whole thing, but especially when Luke says “It’s time for the Jedi… to end.” There was a mixture of excitement, confusion, and intrigue all throughout the crowd. What Rian Johnson is doing with the movie is fascinating.
He is taking a radically different approach to the character of Luke than what was expected. It looks like we have a guilt stricken Luke Skywalker here because he takes responsibility for Kylo Ren and the First Order. It looks like instead of a direct mentorship between Luke and Rey, like we had in A New Hope with Luke and Ben Kenobi, both characters are going to help each other get to the point that they want each other to be. It’s almost like he wanted to be what Obi Wan was to him to Ben Solo, but couldn’t have that.
I can’t wait to see what Rian Johnson can do with the power of writing and directing a Star Wars movie. He seems to be very confident that this is the right way to tell the eighth chapter in the Star Wars. Lucasfilm has impressed me so far with their Star Wars installments, so I trust them with this one.

Since 2012, Disney has been putting their movies on Netflix once they release on Blu Ray with a deal they’ve had. This will change based on what Disney CEO, Bob Iger, stated.
In an earnings call, Bob Iger announced that in 2019, Disney plans on starting their own streaming service which will have many Disney movies and television shows. This means that instead of like it is now, when we get movies like Doctor Strange, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, and Zootopia, we won’t get any new movies on the service. Netflix replied to a concerned fan on Twitter and confirmed that this deal will not affect the Marvel Netflix TV shows like Daredevil and Luke Cage.
This could change the way we view Disney owned movies from now on. We don’t know many details about the service, but there is plenty of room to speculate. If they want to make a profit, they would have to charge a certain amount. With that, they would have to host a worth while amount of movies and TV shows. This will most likely include many older Disney movies, maybe some MCU movies, Pixar, and Disney original animated movies. If they choose to also add their newer movies, which in 2019 will include Star Wars: Episode IX, Captain Marvel, and Frozen 2, people might not buy them on Blu Ray and digitally.
There are many factors that could affect this like how long the movies will stay, the price of the service, or there could even be ads on the service. Another possibility is that Disney could make exclusive content. They could make a Marvel show on it, a live action Star Wars TV show, or anything they want. Whatever happens, this could go very well for Disney if people are really into this idea. However, people already pay for streaming services like Netflix and Hulu, so they might be too late to the game with this one.
What do you think about Disney’s new streaming service? Would you buy it? Leave your comments below.

Sylvester Stallone might have confirmed that Dolph Lundgren could be returning for the sequel to Creed.
Stallone did a quick interview for TMZ, and in it he hinted at seeing Ivan Drago on Creed II. This shouldn’t be taken too seriously, but it is certainly interesting.
“It wouldn’t be a party without Drago would it? I’m gonna punch him. You know I gotta hit Drago once.”
If Drago returns, how would it be? Would Drago and Adonis Creed fight? Could there be a rivalry between himself and Rocky? Maybe he teaches Adonis? In Rocky IV, Drago killed Adonis Creed’s father, Apollo, in the ring. That could create some interesting drama between the two characters. Stallone has been hinting at this with several instagram posts, which you can see below. Sylvester Stallone will be writing Creed II, so he could do almost anything we wants with the story. Creed was one of the best movies of last year, so I can’t wait to see what happens in the sequel.

Dunkirkis a film set in World War II about the Dunkirk evacuation when the Germans had Allied soldiers trapped on a beach in France. They are surrounded and desperate to get home and be done with this terrible situation. The film is directed by Christopher Nolan, which automatically makes anyone excited to see it. Tommy (Fionn Whitehead) is a solider on land and along side him is a French soldier (Damien Bonnard). Mr. Dawson (Mark Rylance) and his son, Peter (Tom Glynn- Carney) help out the navy with the evacuation along with Peter’s friend, George (Barry Keoghan). There are also two pilots, Farrier (Tom Hardy) and Collins (Jack Lowden), providing air support and taking out German planes.
This movie is purely about the experience of watching it. It starts right in the middle of what’s going on and doesn’t take a break at all throughout the film. The way Nolan shoots the movie makes you feel like you are on that beach and have no hope of survival. This might just be the best looking movie of the year, visually. the way Nolan uses IMAX cameras is genius. I can’t remember a shot that took me out of the movie, it was just all great. If you get a chance, see this movie in IMAX because it is the best way to see it. He also shoots on real locations, uses real ships, and as many practical effects as possible. This just adds to that tense feeling you feel in the movie. The sound design is also spectacular, some of the beast I’ve ever heard. It’s completely immersive, especially in IMAX. If the characters are in a ship, every sound is perfect, the gunshots, he waves, the German planes descending on the Allies, were all just pristine quality.
The movie also has an interesting element using time. I won’t spoil it, but at the beginning of the movie they give you some information. It is a little bit confusing at first, but as the movie goes on you start to piece things together and the whole film becomes more coherent. It reminded me of some of his previous films like Memento and The Prestige. However, this element does make the movie much more tiring to watch, because the way they use this does become slightly convoluted. It does give you a basic enough idea of the story, but it’s difficult to put the whole puzzle together.
The film has been getting criticism for poor characters, saying that they aren’t fleshed out at all. While that critique is valid, that aspect worked beautifully for me. If you are in this situation, you won’t have time to ask anybody how the kids are doing, or who they have at home. It is so frantic and intense that you don’t have time to make friends. If they spent time with character, I feel like the purpose of the film would be undermined. Almost every war movie is about characters, and most of them work very well like Saving Private Ryan. So, if Nolan had done a conventional war movie, then it would have been like all the rest. Instead of that, he pushed against the stereotype and made a war film purely about spectacle and experience. The one negative about this is that you don’t feel any danger for any one particular character. Like I said, you feel like you’re on the beach surrounded by Germans, and that makes you terrified for the British as a whole. However, the film puts certain characters in the forefront, and you don’t feel very attached to them individually.
I personally think that Dunkirk is one of the best movies of the year so far. It is exhilarating and sensational. You’ll hold your breath throughout the entire film. If you haven’t seen Dunkirk yet, I highly recommend seeing it in IMAX. It is meant to be seen with the biggest screens and the best sound systems. While it isn’t one of Nolan’s best movies it is still really fun watch. Also take into consideration, he hasn’t really ever made a bad movie yet. Some are better than others, but they are all good movies.
Have you seen Dunkirk? What did you think? Leave your thoughts in the comments below.

DC seems to be poking up on the love for Wonder Woman because she is rumored to appear in the Flash movie.
In an article from Forbes about the success of Wonder Woman, it is said that she will be in the upcoming DC movie The Flash: Flashpoint. It also says that it is set for release in 2020. The movie was announced at this year’s Comic Con. Wonder Woman does play a major role in the original comic storyline. Her Amazonians and Aquaman’s army fight over territory of Earth for complicated reasons. Though the movie does focus primarily on Flash and Thomas Wayne Batman.
Forbes isn’t known for doing “scoops”, so this should be taken as a rumor. If this is true, seeing Wonder Woman and Aquaman fight would be amazing. Both characters will be well established with Wonder Woman having two solo films and Aquaman having his solo by this point. As long as they firmly establish the fact that it is set in an alternate universe, audiences shouldn’t be too lost by the idea. Even if she is in the movie, they might not take the comic book approach. She could just simply be a side character in the film. However way they would end up using her would be great with Gal Gadot in the role. She’s really owned the role on the movie screen and in real life.

A sequel to the 1984 movie, The Karate Kid, will appear on YouTube Red in 2018.
The sequel will be a 10-episode, half-hour series currently titled Cobra Kai. It will star Ralph Macchio and William Zabka from the original movies. The series picks up thirty years after the 1984 All-State Valkey Tournament. Johnny Lawrence (Zabka) reopens the Cobra Kai dojo, with that bringing back his rivalry with Daniel LaRusso (Macchio), who is dealing with balancing his life without Mr. Miyagi.
I’m a huge fan of the first Karate Kid movie, so getting a sequel is very exciting. That rivalry between Daniel and Johnny is one of the most iconic of all time, bringing it back is a smart choice. As long as they don’t take themselves too seriously, the show could be really enjoyable. If they take an approach as a serious drama, then it might stray too far from the tone of the original movie. YouTube Red is an odd choice to put it.
Usually their content stars the YouTubers with a few low budget movies as well. YouTube could be trying to get into the same class of streaming services like Netflix and Hulu. This is the first thing that legitimately makes me want to sign up for YouTube Red. Everything before this has looked like fan service to the fans of certain YouTubers, which there is nothing wrong with, but this looks really interesting.
What do you think of Cobra Kai? Would you rather it be on a different streaming service? Leave your thoughts in the comments.

This weekend was relatively slow for movies. There weren’t many new releases, but there is still some interesting things to report on.
The Dark Tower topped out the box office making $19.5 million in its opening weekend. The film has been getting some criticism for its disservice to the books, and this shows in the numbers this weekend. The film was on a budget of only $60 million, so it should make its money back in international box office if not domestic. Dunkirk stands strong in second place earning $17.6 million in its third weekend putting it at $133,555,738 for total gross. It took a 33% drop from last weekend. The film is making more than Nolan’s earlier works, but has yet to surpass the Dark Knight movies, Inception, and Interstellar when adjusted for inflation. The only one it has a chance of catching up to is most likely Interstellar being $70 million away.
The Emoji Movie came in third place with $12.35 million taking a 49.7% drop. The movie didn’t really have a strong start last weekend, and that continues this weekend. The movie has a 7% on Rotten Tomatoes, so parents might have kept kids away from the movie. Hopefully studios learn a lesson from this and put more effort into their ideas. Girls Trip got the fourth place slot with $11.4 million. Its total box office is now $85,443,720 being very successful by the standards of a pure comedy. It’s not my type of movie, but people seem to be loving it.
Finally, the critically panned Kidnap came in fifth place earning $10.2 million in its opening weekend. The budget was only around $21 million, so it has a good chance of making its money back. Although it’s not in the top five, it should be mentioned that Kathryn Bigelow’s latest film, Detroit, earned $7.25 million this weekends. The movie is probably focusing more on awards than box office, so this shouldn’t hurt them too much.
The Dark Tower – $19,500,000
Dunkirk – $17,600,000
The Emoji Movie – $12,350,000
Girls Trip – $11,418,700
Kidnap – $10,210,000

Marvel has announced that the upcoming Marvel movie, Ant-Man and the Wasp, has started shooting. They released the following video to show fans that they’ve started.
Along with the video, Marvel also released this synopsis for the movie:
From the Marvel Cinematic Universe comes a new chapter featuring heroes with the astonishing ability to shrink: “Ant-Man and The Wasp.” In the aftermath of “Captain America: Civil War,” Scott Lang (Rudd) grapples with the consequences of his choices as both a Super Hero and a father. As he struggles to rebalance his home life with his responsibilities as Ant-Man, he’s confronted by Hope van Dyne (Lilly) and Dr. Hank Pym (Douglas) with an urgent new mission. Scott must once again put on the suit and learn to fight alongside The Wasp as the team works together to uncover secrets from their past.
Peyton Reed will return as director while Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly are coming back to star as the title heroes. Michael Douglas, Michael Peña, and T.I will reprise their roles along with Bobby Cannavale, Judy Greer, Abby Ryder Fortson, and David Dastmalchian. There will also be a few new cast members including Laurence as Dr. Bill Foster (a.k.a. Goliath), Walton Goggins as Sonny Burch, Michelle Pfeiffer as Janet van Dynne, Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost, and Randall Park as Agent Jimmy Woo.
The first Ant-Man was a really great movie, despite the silly concept. It was also, in my opinion, the funniest Marvel movie so far. I hope this movie can capture the same elements that made the first one work so well.
