Alicia Vikander Set Photos From Tomb Raider Movie

She definitely looks the part.

Last year, Alicia Vikander signed on to star as Lara Croft in the Tomb Raider movie reboot. She has starred in films like The Danish Girl and Ex Machina. She will play the daughter of a wealthy family, who goes on adventures to search for lost artifacts.

She will star alongside Walton Goggins as the villain Father Mathias Vogel, Daniel Wu as ship captain Lu Ren, and Dominic West as Lara’s father Lord Richard Croft. Norwegian director,  Roar Uthaug will helm the Warner Bros. reboot.

Some photos of Alicia Vikander in action have been circulating the internet.

I do play a lot of video games and I’m a huge fan of them, but video  game movies haven’t had a very good track record so far. This year could have been the year that they came through, but I didn’t like Angry Birds at all, I had no interest in Warcraft, and I heard that Assassin’s Creed was terrible. I can’t believe that we haven’t had a good video game movie so far. I mean, how hard can it be. I just want this movie to be good.

I played the Tomb Raider reboot games and they are awesome. Great story and gameplay, if you haven’t played them, you should. I think a movie based on them is a really good idea. There is a lot of stuff you could do with that. These pictures look good.  Alicia Vikander definitely looks like Lara Croft from the games.

What scares me is that we’ve said all of these things before. Assassin’s Creed seemed like a great idea, we know how that turned out. It also had a great lead actor, Michael Fassbender, and this has Alicia Vikander. So, I’m am cautiously optimistic for this movie. I just really hope it’s good.

The Batman Has a Rumored Director Shortlist

Guess Zack Snyder wasn’t available.

After Ben Affleck dropped as director from The Batman, Warner Bros. has been looking for a director.

Forbes has reported that several names have been floating around to take over the movie. Those names include George Miller (Mad Max), Matt Reeves ( Cloverfield, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes), Gavin O’Connor (Warrior, The Accountant), Denis Villeneuve (Prisoners, Arrival), and Matt Ross ( Captain Fantastic). Forbes also says that the studio expects to make an announcement soon, but is not rushing the decision.
If this is real, I like all these directors. This is a good direction it the film. I was actually bummed when I heard Ben Affleck dropped off, but this gets my hopes up again.

I think my two favorites are George Miller and Gavin O’Connor. George Miller knows how to handle action while maintaining a good storyline. Gavin O’Connor has worked with Ben Affleck before and has proven himself with Warrior as well. Matt Reeves is a close second, I’d be fine with him too.

I’d actually rather Denis Villeneuve stick with his style of slow psychological movies instead of trying Batman, I just don’t think his style would fit. Matt Ross is good, but I do t think his style fits either. However, the same was probably said when Christopher Nolan signed on as director of Batman Begins. So, directors can change their style to fit with a movie.

Overall, I think that this might prove DC might have a plan with the movie. The fact that they have a shortlist (assuming the rumor is true)  filled with great names is really encouraging. I am more optimistic about the film now.

‘The Lego Movie’ Sequel Adds ‘Trolls’ Director Mike Mitchell

Everything is not awesome…

THR has reported that Warner Bros. Animation has added Trolls director, Mike Mitchell, to helm the sequel to the hit animated movie The Lego Movie.

Rob Schrab was director at first, but he dropped due to “creative differences.” Lego Movie directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller are directing the Han Solo movie which just began shooting. They wrote the first draft of the script, but it was rewritten by Raphael Bob-Waksberg. Miller and Lord will return as producers.

Mike Mitchell’s filmography from 2005 is as follows: Sky High, Shrek Forever After, Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked, The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out Of Water, and Trolls.

Why.

I don’t understand why you would even consider hiring this guy. He doesn’t make good movies. I admittedly haven’t seen his last two movies, but I don’t plan to. And, the ones I haven’t seen just were bad. Shrek 4 was awful, Alvin and the Chipmunks is a dumb franchise, and Sky High was OK, I guess.

I can somewhat understand from a studio perspective why they would hire him, because his movies are profitable. But, this doesn’t excite me at all, it just makes me scared for the movie. I loved the original Lego Movie, and I have been hyped for a sequel since 2014. I just want a good follow up to the biggest surprise of that year.

In short, I don’t like this at all. I’m not rioting about it, like I’m not dreading this movie. But, all this does is hinder my excitement for the film.

Colin Farrell in Talks to Star in Dan Gilroy’s ‘Inner City’ With Denzel Washington

According to Variety Colin Farrell is in talks to star opposite Denzel Washington in the legal drama Inner City from Nightcrwaler director and writer, Dan Gilroy.

Sony is putting out the film that will be written and directed by Dan Gilroy. This is the synopsis according to Variety: “Washington plays a hard-nosed lawyer named Roman J. Israel, who’s fighting the good fight while others take the credit. When his partner has a heart attack, Israel suddenly takes on the role of the firm’s frontman. He soon uncovers details about the crusading law firm’s history that run afoul of his values of helping the poor and dispossessed, and finds himself in an existential crisis that leads to extreme action.” Farrell is in negotiations to play another attorney in the film.

I, like many others, really loved Nightcrawler and was really excited to see Dan Gilroy direct a second film. So, when I heard he was directing Inner City, I was hyped to see him tackle a legal/court drama type of film. Denzel Washington in the film is a great idea. He’s a great actor. And Colin Farrell in the film also sounds good. This just gets me more excited for the movie.

His last film was Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, and he was really good in that, despite the character being misused. I’ve also heard great things about him in The Lobster, which I haven’t gotten around to seeing yet. He was even nominated for a Golden Globe in Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy. I’m still super excited to see Dan Gilroy return to another film.

Wolverine/Deapool Movie Will Take a Lot Of Restructuring

Hugh Jackman will supposedly play Wolverine for the last time on March 3rd in Logan. There have been rumors of Deadpool appearing in it, but they were debunked by director, James Mangold. Now, everybody wants Wolverine and Deadpool in a movie together.

The Playlist did an interview with the writers of Deadpool, Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese and there were asked about a Wolverine/Deadpool team up movie. They are all for it, but it doesn’t work for the current plan.

“We’ve come a long way from 2009, when we couldn’t get the movie off the ground ’til now,” said Wernick. “And to have [this team-up]? It would be amazing to have Hugh resurrect Wolverine in the Deadpool universe, and again, Ryan’s making a hard push to make that happen, and hopefully the public gets behind it and we can all convince Hugh to put the claws on one more time.”

They then asked if adding Jackman to Deadpool would change everything with the plans of Deadpool 2, Deadpool 3, and possibly, X-Force.

“Yeah, it would, if you think about it,” Reese explained. “If you’re looking at ‘Deadpool 2,’ if you’re looking at ‘X-Force,’ if you’re looking at ‘Deadpool 3,’ there’s not necessarily room for [another] team-up movie. I think it does create real scheduling and universe issues and something that could be ironed out, but it would need to be ironed out. I don’t think any of us operated under the assumption that it would be even possible to do a Deadpool/Wolverine thing, so we just haven’t planned for it, it’s still not in the plan, but if it were to happen, it would require a hard look at the overall architecture of our storylines.”

After that they confirmed that Deadpool would not be appearing in Logan, but we already knew that.

A Deadpool and Wolverine team up movie would be very fun, but I’m a little bit conflicted. Logan is my second most anticipated film of 2017, behind Star Wars. It looks like the perfect way to send off the character after 17 years of him on screen. Personally, I feel like if he was in another movie, I’d feel cheated. I would feel like it might ruin the way he left with a bang if he just came right back a few years later.

Now don’t get me wrong, I think it’d be an awesome to see Wolverine and Deadpool team up for an entire movie. It would also be one of the most hilarious comic book movies of all time! There are so many things that you could do in that movie. But, the part that I’m conflicted on is that it erases the fact that Jackman would go out on a high note. (assuming the movie is good)

The chances of this happening are slim though. They said in the quote that they haven’t even planned for that and it would change everything in the universe. They have a slate of three movies in 2018 and 2019, so that would take a lot of readjusting to make work. Hugh Jackman has also said that he would do it when the time is right. So, this all seems to say that there are no plans of this right now. Maybe it could work farther into the future. Right now, I don’t feel 100% about it.

John Wick Could Have a Prequel TV Show

John Wick: Chapter 2 is coming soon to theaters, but we might get more of the world through television.

SlashFilm spoke with director Chad Stahelski and screenwriter Derek Kolstad at a John Wick: Chapter  press event. They spoke about the possibilities of having more stories in this world. They wanted to explore the characters and the universe more. Here is what Stahelski said:

Well, we’re not doing a prequel [with Chapter 2]. We wanted to, it just didn’t fit quite where we’re at….We basically almost have a prequel written, but we’d save that for other aspects of the property. Lionsgate is very interested in doing a John Wick TV show, and that seems very appealing to us, to give those creative ideas to that entity, because I think in TV you could really expand on what that is, and greater than we could in just a two-hour film. We’d like to wrap-up the story we’re telling now and maybe save all our prequel ideas and impossible task ideas for that medium.

I loved the first John Wick movie. I thought it was a really fun action movie that understood what it was and ran with it. They set up the comic book type world in that movie which makes room for tons of possibilities. I think that making a TV show is a great idea. I really want to know more about this assassin world, The Continental, and the organization. I agree with Stalelski that you don’t have enough time in a movie to really get into the lore of this world.

We are getting a comic book that takes place after the events of the first John Wick movie. That could also expand the world a little bit more. My only request is that there is no John Wick in the show. In my opinion, Keanu Reeves is the only person that can play John Wick. Someone else playing a younger version of him would be too jarring for me.

I’d rather the show tell us about the assassin organization than how John Wick, himself, got started. While that would be interesting, I just want Keanu to stick with John Wick. I also don’t think he would even sign up for a tv role. A show focusing on different assassins would be very good idea.

Chris Terrio Rewrites The Batman Script

Monday, we received the unfortunate news that Ben Affleck will not be directing the solo Batman film. We then thought that he would stay on as star, producer, and writer. We might be slightly wrong about that.

Deadline reports that Chris Terrio has turned in a rewrite for the solo Batman script that Ben Affleck and president/ Chief Creative Officer of DC Comics, Geoff Johns.
Chris Terrio has two major credits under his belt: Argo and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. He will also write the upcoming Justice League movie this fall. Terrio won an Oscar for best writing, adapted screenplay for Argo, but Batman v Superman‘s main problem was the messy screenplay. Despite that, I am still on board with this.

So, we all know that the problem with Batman v Superman was that they tried to cram too much in one movie. But, I think that Warner Brothers should take the blame for that. They decided to make one movie to set up Justice League, so they would then have to tell Chris Terrio to add all these things into one movie. You can only do so much with that.

The other thing is the Oscar. I honestly haven’t seen Argo yet (I actually have the blu-ray to watch soon) but I’ve heard great things. He won an Oscar, so clearly he has some talent, they don’t just hand those out. That’s why I think it was Warner Brothers that had Terrio add all those things into one movie. I don’t think a writer who has an Oscar would turn in work that messy by choice.

That’s not to say that I didn’t want Ben Affleck to write the script, I would actually rather have that because he has proven to be a better writer. Chris Terrio only has two major movies in his filmography while Ben Affleck also has a best writing Oscar, and even more movies. I really wanted to see his take on The Batman.

Lastly, the scary thing is that someone had to rewrite it. Ben Affleck previously said that he would only direct it if the script turned out right. Look what happened. That part of this scares me. Why would you need a rewrite if the script was good to begin with? So, I don’t know why there was a rewrite, but the facts add up to that reason.

As far as Chris Terrio writing, I’m cautiously optimistic that the movie will turn out good, but things aren’t adding up too positively.
