The solo Batman film has gone through a lot of changes over the past month. Ben Affleck isn’t directing, the script is getting a complete rewrite, and Matt Reeves was in talks to direct. That is no longer the case.
THR reports that negotiations have stopped between Warner Bros. and Reeves. Their source says that talks could resume “when heads cool”. The studio is still committed to make this movie happen.
The Batman Movie was out only last hope for the DCEU, and now it has just gone downhill. If I hear one more bad thing about this movie, I will have lost hope forever. I would say that about this news, but the report states that heads have to cool down. That means there might just be some disagreements with the studio and Reeves. But, knowing the studio’s track record so far, I don’t think that’ll happen.
I think all this points to one thing: Warner Bros. I think that they are talking to directors and trying to meddle with their ideas and push them around. We’ve seen it happen before with Suicide Squad, and them hiring a trailer company to edit the movie. I hate pointing fingers at people, but all the evidence end up here. Warner Bros needs to take a step back and look at the mess they’ve created, then try and straighten things out.
